I was writing my Chemistry exam.One Mam approached me and said that, tomorrow you are supposed to participate in a competition.And you are allowed to have one companion with you in the competition she added.First i refused a lot.Finally i left out with no other choice rather than keeping my mouth mum and nod my head.When she was about to leave the classroom, i stood and interrogated her as what is the competition is all about?!?!?!?! .She perplexed me with her devilish laugh..Finally she with a slow voice told "Its Cookery Competition".I really got Amazed!*!*!* and at the same time equally i got irritated by her detestable gestures..Till date i never ever came across my home's kitchen or known/aware of something called as Cooking..That time i was a novice in cooking.But someway or the other i should tackle the situation is what ran in my mind at that time.
On the same day,my friend Vaishnavi too told me about this and we both joined together and formed a team for the competition. We were even not known about the recipe names or the ingredient names either.But we still maintained to be the perfect Duo pair ..!.
My class teacher gave some ideas and recipe names..All resembled like it would consume 1hr or 30mins to prepare atleast.But,We know about ourselves that mixing and tossing stuffs means we will definitely mess up..so it will be better we try some Mocktail is what our plan was before the day of competition.
After i went to my home i made a call to vaishu and asked what we gonna do..She told,whatever we do,that should come pretty well and we should become popular(our first resolution immediately made after the next sec.we became friends) in school someway.Finally we decided to make Badham Kheer and Apple Juice.
The day of the competition came and we both were allotted a place for the competition.All well set.The time given to us was 1hr and 30mins.All the co-participants seemed to be a well trained cooks..!! We got little bit nervous but did'nt show to anyone..Managed to show all our 32..
We started with Badham Kheer first.Really accepting, we both donno how to prepare it but well known about the ingredients to be added.First we planned to mix all the ingredients at a go, so there wont be any probs..!! So we first took the Boiled milk and with that, added the Powder and essence which we dont know when to add and or to which quantity to add.Just added the powder until the milk turned somewhat creamish light yellow and the essence until the foam appeared.
stirred it for 10mins and finally added more scoops of sugar(donno in what quantity to add so,for each spoon,we tested the taste).Finally added Saffron,Elachi,Khishmish,Pista to highlight our innovation.We finnally with the left out ingredients decorated it to some extent.But our presentation came well.
Then we started with our apple juice preparation.We made small pieces of apple and grinded that and added milk to it.Added all our remaining sugar and we too added some few drops of honey.(donno for what reason we added honey..but it was the only left out item we did'nt use in our recipes.so inorder to dont waste the stuff we added it).Finally decorated it with whatever we had with us.The presentation style was pretty much digestable i would say.Everything was accomplished and we displayed it.When we were about to depart a mind screwing announcement was made.That really kindled our anger.The announcement is, we participants were told to write the procedure of our preparations and the ingredients used.Damn..! We did'nt really expect this from our Jury.Finally thinking like writing our Exam wrote something and came.
We did'nt really expect that.And Finally went to the stage to receive the certificates and prizes.Everyone from our class cheered and one of my friend whistled too...Our resolution came true..Felt really contented.All teachers of our class came and asked what recipe we did and how we did.We blabbered.sigh*.We also thanked our friends who gave some useful suggestions and a special thanks goes to my friend Kavitha who taught us how to stir the milk,handle the vessels and all...
The next year too the same competition was announced in our class.We did'nt give our names as telling luck will favour only once.But our class teacher Mrs.Stella gave our names and this time too we did'nt get any new stuffs to try.So,we did the same thing which we tried the last year.The same Badham Kheer and Apple Juice.Height of Delightment..!!!we got the same Second prize again..!
Next year there was no such announcement for cookery competition.So i did'nt participate and moreover, Vaishu's dad got transfer and she went to different school..!! Missed her a lot in my remaining school days.But still we are in touch.Thanks to Orkut,Facebook..!!
